C&C Group has been delivering technology and related solutions in the pharmaceutical sector for over 20 years. One of if not the largest central bodies in the sector is the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) an industry collective voice which represents innovative biopharmaceutical companies who supply more than 80 per cent of all branded medicines used by the NHS.
The relationship between the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare professionals (HCPs) and healthcare organisations (HCOs) plays a vital role in the development and delivery of life-enhancing and life-saving medicines. In order to ensure that patients and others at a European regulatory level have full assurance that all and any financial transactions are ‘open’ and importantly transparent, the ABPI and collectively the pharmaceutical industry took the lead on disclosing details of all financial payments and other benefits in kind (BiK) made by industry to HCPs and HCOs.
Our relationship with the ABPI can therefore race its roots back to 5 years ago where C&C Group won a tender to provide the data matching and data quality matching and assurance role within the UK’s flagship Pharmaceutical Transparency initiative, also known as Disclosure UK. Disclosure UK is part of a Europe-wide initiative to increase and promote transparency between pharmaceutical companies and the doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health professionals (some 125,000 individuals) and organisations it works with.
C&C Group’s initial role was to manage the address and fiscal matching of Healthcare Professional and Healthcare organisation data to a single, clean, transparent record. This single view allowed for the creation of a centralised and collated database of the Pharmaceutical Industry’s interaction with Healthcare Professionals and Healthcare Organisations. The database is accessed and updated by over 150 global leading pharmaceutical organisations, each of which needed to be securely integrated with the application in order to create a centralised master view and repository that would collect and report on sensitive information between the centralised pharma parties and the receiving beneficiaries.
The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) were determined to change and improve the Disclosure UK Platform and approached us about taking out the bigger prime role. C&C Group’s ability to meet and indeed exceed our contractual commitments resulted in us being awarded the full program fulfilment role from 2018 onwards.
Securing the prime delivery role in 2018 endorses the ABPI’s confidence in us and our ability to manage not only sensitive data but our ‘safe pair of hands’ ability to meticulously manage high profile industry initiatives. In summary, C&C Group delivered this project of large technological change to a pre-existing market with over 150 large, high-turnover, high profile pharma participants in a controlled manner from inception to go Live. The programme of change was delivered on time and within budget and continues to operate effectively yet has improved significantly upon the previous prime contractor. The IT elements were introduced seamlessly in the eyes of the customer and the broader 125,000 stakeholders within the pharma sector.
