Steve Kinder-Managing Director

Steve left school at 16 and did an electrical apprenticeship in the chemical industry specialising in automation and real-time control systems. Time out to do a degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering and then a part time MSc in Robotics led to an Engineering design and management role within ICI’s embryonic center for computer science. Having experienced a 12 month headache working on new language and compiler development Steve saw an opportunity to cross over to the fast developing area of relational databases and had early exposure to Oracle. Taking those Oracle and C development skills to the freelance market led to contracts at British Telecom working on the system X and Y digital exchanges and then a seminal move to the start-up of the Eurotunnel project. Eurotunnel gave Steve the opportunity to bring in a development team under his own commercial consultancy umbrella and that team largely took responsibility for systems design and development at Eurotunnel until successful market opening. Having successfully handed over on-going systems operation to Eurotunnel staff Steve moved to running two contract positions in parallel, one with what was then Northern Electric and is now Northern Powergrid and the other with Bristol-Myers Squibb. The rest is history as they say as that was the start of C&C’s major verticals in energy and pharmaceuticals.

Steve has four children now in their 20’s and two Chihuahuas which he adores.

Matt Hartley-Director

Matt joined C&C Group in 2003 as a Senior Developer and is now a Company Director, responsible for overall programme management within the group. Matt is responsible for ensuring that all projects are delivered to the same high quality and on time and to budget-a client’s dream.

Matt learnt most of his trade developing on the electricity Metering Point Registration System (MPRS) which manages the switching process within electricity.   Switching, new connections, settlement and data quality remains to this day a particular expertise of Matt’s. He has an almost tangible passion for the Utilities sector and has programme managed and delivered a broad spectrum of projects into large multinationals, SMEs as well as start-up organisations.

In the past 4 years Matt has been core and central to C&C Group’s entry and expansion into the Water sector.   This started with C&C Group winning a control via formal procurement to be the IT service provider to the Central Market Agency (CMA) in Scotland and still remains close to the CMA on an account level day by day.

Matt was instrumental in helping to develop SWIM-ware and SWIM-pool from conceptual ideas to actual products bringing his considerable knowledge and experience built up from throughout the Utilities sector, and having sold SWIM-ware and SWIM-pool to a large number of water participants is now presently very busy helping these water companies prepare for Shadow Market Operations and market readiness in the English non-domestic Water market.

Matt holds a degree in Business Economics from Exeter University.

Neil Mc Keown-Head of Business Development

Neil joined C&C Group in August 2013 as Head of Business Development to lead the Sales, Marketing and Business Development activities across the verticals in which C&C Group operate-electricity, gas, water and pharma.

Since joining C&C Group, Neil has been leading on C&C Group’s smart metering activities, working with DNOs in the Registration space to provide a fully managed RDP service interface to the DCC.

Neil is presently closely working with one of C&C Group’s largest customers to design, develop and now implement 3 new Enterprise level new software applications across gas and electricity.

Over the past 24 months, Neil played a key role in developing relationships with water market participants in a pre/post sales arena to understand their respective needs in market messaging and selling solutions to participants to help them discharge their obligations within non household retail water competition. He also manages key accounts with C&C Group with pharma clients such as Sanofi, Actavis, Bristol Myers Squibs and most recently Roche.

Given C&C Group’s long and distinguished heritage within ‘central market registration’, Neil has also led on discussions intra industry on how the industry can move to faster switching/central registration in the most optimum manner.

Since starting at C&C Group, Neil is also meeting with, building relationships with and positioning C&C Groups core capabilities in the following areas:

  • IT transformation;
  • IT strategy, IT effectiveness and IT service delivery;
  • Fully managed outsourced IT services;
  • Bespoke developments to interface and manage workflow with the MO; and
  • Data Cleansing and preparation including addressing.

Neil spent his previous 15 years working for ElectraLink in a number of roles principally within Business Development being the BD lead for Electra Link’s Network commercial messaging services across electricity and gas.

Neil brings excellent knowledge across gas and electricity to C&C Group, has significantly built his knowledge and relationships within water and has excellent interpersonal skills and developed longstanding relationships across all levels of clients throughout these sectors.

He holds a 2:1 BA Hons degree in Business with Computing and an MBA from CASS Business School.

Jon Edwards–Solution Architect

Jon has worked for C&C Group for 11 years and specialises in the provision of and implementation of commercial and clinical systems for C&C Groups global pharmaceutical clients.

Jon combines his subject matter expertise built up over the past 10 years very effectively to combine roles across business development and business analysis for C&C Group.

In more recent times Jon has focussed on the delivery of GxP validated systems including patient monitoring systems and patient restricted access registers.  He has helped his clients gain validated and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance or certification on a number of bespoke systems, and prides himself on providing a mix of I.T. and pharmaceutical expertise which facilitate bridging complex requirements with software delivery.

Most recently in a BD role Jon has secured a large contract with one of the UK Leading Pharma companies to deploy C&C Group’s industry standard AMS system. The Agreement Management System (AMS) is the only contract lifecycle management solution built specifically for pharma, helping our customers to optimise, analyse, & administer their myriad of commercial relationships with Wholesalers, Dispensing Practices, Retail Organisations, NHS Purchasing & Supply Agency, & Private Hospitals.

Day to day Jon is a C&C Group Account Director for a broad spectrum of C&C Group’s distinguished pharma clients including:

  • Novartis Pharmaceuticals (UK, Ireland, Australia & New Zealand)
  • Sanofi Pharmaceuticals (UK)
  • Actavis Pharmaceuticals (UK)

Dave Southwood-Lead Developer and SWIM Product Owner

David has been a technical team lead at C&C Group for eight  years and is currently product owner for C&C Group’s ‘go-to-market’ water sector applications. Dave has also recently worked on some major projects for British American Tobacco and brings significant knowledge and a level head to a range of projects C&C Group are involved in.

After obtaining a 1st class honours degree in Mathematics at Kings College, London, he started his career in software development, subsequently gaining 25 years’ experience in the field.

During that time he has been exposed to a diverse set of industries including life insurance and pensions, property , legal, music and latterly pharmaceutical, utilities and life sciences.

Having met with and dealt with a wide range of clients, he has worked within a variety of project structures including validated systems, waterfall and agile development processes and has worked with all elements of the full project lifecycle.

David is well versed in Microsoft development technologies having worked with the Microsoft stack for the majority of his career.  He has also deep underlying experience with solutions from other vendors such as Oracle, SAP Crystal Server and other database centric technologies.

Dave’s experience covers a wide range of architectures including N-Tier enterprise web solutions, client-server applications and single installation windows applications.

He is the lead developer with SWIM-ware and SWIM-pool C&C Groups new ‘go to market’ applications.

David is a father of 2 and a keen cyclist, having completed the London to Brighton charity cycle several times.

Andrew Begley-Water Market SME

Andrew joined C&C Group in 2004 after completing a Masters degree in e-business at Staffordshire University. Initially Andrew was heavily involved in the pharmaceutical sector, working on the implementation of a Pricing Management System (PMS) for a large US multinational and also on multiple implementations of C&C Group’s Agreement Management System (AMS) throughout our pharma clients within the UK.

Andrew is also well versed in the utility sector where he has been the project manager and technical lead for the Technical Assurance Agent (TAA) system for ELEXON which is used to manage and support electricity meter inspections for energy that is purchased on a half hourly basis. This critical system incorporates an offline application that syncs the meter technical results and other supporting information such as images and GPS coordinates back to a centralised website, so that relevant information stakeholders can review the gathered inspection data and any associated failures that need to be rectified.

In 2010 C&C Group-through a competitive tender exercise-were awarded a contract for the development and on-going support from the Central Market Agency(CMA) to develop and maintain Central Systems which are responsible for the registration and billing of non-domestic water and sewerage services in Scotland.

There are both High (XML web services) and Low (web GUI) volume interfaces for the system which adhere to a very strict design, development and testing cycles (lead by Andrew) with typically two releases per year which are meticulously coordinated by Andrew with water market participants.

Andrew is the Central Systems Account Director and has built up significant knowledge of the water industry over the last few years and supports the CMA in their business as usual activities.

Grahame Cox-Senior Business Analyst

Grahame joined C&C Group as an experienced Oracle System Designer/ Developer with specific expertise in Data Warehousing and Management Information Systems.

Grahame has previously worked as a consultant in several FTSE100 companies  (BT Solutions, Telstra Australia and BAT) and worked closely with the Business to define and build solutions tailored to their client’s needs.

Having worked closely with senior users and having developed a strong client focused approach, he now operates as a Senior Business Analyst at C&C Group and enjoys understanding the end client’s user requirements.

With over 7 years’ experience at C&C Group, Grahame has worked in all verticals of the company, from Pharmaceutical developments for Wyeth, Shire and Gilead to developments for BAT, Gemserv, Scottish Power and UK Power Networks. A broad and distinguished set of clients I am sure you will agree.

Grahame assisted in the specification of the Green Deal Central Charge Database, the central repository of Green Deals for the Government. More recently, he has also been involved with the Landlord TAP system for WaterUK and has recently been working with the Openwater consortium to identify the contestable non-domestic water market using the OS Address Base Premium dataset. Grahame and C&C Group in general will be utilising this knowledge to help UK water companies prepare data for market readiness  in the lead up to water Competition in 2017.

Justine Ellis-Finance and Office Manager

Super achievers are called that for one simple reason; they get things done. And habitually super achievers are also super-organised.  Meet Justine.

Justine is the ‘go to’ within C&C Group. No matter the request or requirement Justine is typically the first person that C&C staff will naturally approach.

Having spent 13 years with Toyota GB, Justine learned the art of Japanese precision in an Accountancy role and in the past 7 years since working with C&C she has extended her wide and varied range of skillsets (whilst still meticulously managing the C&C accounts) to manage the C&C Group HR and Payroll functions across our UK sites.

Prior to joining Toyota and C&C Group, Justine spent the early part of her career working within various cottage and boutique entrepreneurial businesses managing corporate finance and obtaining real first-hand experience in what it takes to succeed in establishing and growing a business.

Whenever she gets some down time, if you know Justine you would know that was never the case, she also acts as Office Manager at our HQ in Whyteleafe. Need travel booked? Contact Justine. Ken McRae – Head of Strategy & Transformation

Ken joined C&C Group as a member of the Senior Management Team in October 2016 with specific responsibilities for Strategy and Transformation.

The role includes developing and implementing various Strategic Initiatives including growth strategy, reviewing and improving recruitment capabilities, formalising corporate communication both horizontally and vertically, gaining a clearer more direct view of how we are perceived by our clients and establishing Senior / Executive relationships with customers, Regulators and Government.

Ken brings over 25 years’ experience of supporting companies to realise their potential through the development and implementation of Strategy Plans and helping them professionalise their businesses. He has extensive experience in the development, implementation and operation of central market arrangements supporting utility retail markets and operational management experience including market design, client, project and change management, business change, business process and data analysis, contract drafting and negotiation.

Prior to joining C&C Group, Ken acted as an independent strategic consultant to a number of organisations and was Chief Operating Officer / Executive Director of Gemserv Limited and fulfilled the role of Company Secretary for various Client organisations.  He has been involved in a number of transformational projects including the development of the central market arrangements to support the introduction and operation of the competitive retail Water Market in Scotland, the Faster Switching Programme, Code Governance Reviews and Smart Metering.

Ken has an Honours degree in Business Studies, a father of 5 and an avid supporter of his sons’ rugby teams.

Tony Hodgson-Development Manager

Tony has worked in all aspects of System Development for more than 20 years.  A large proportion of this time has been in the utilities sector but he also has experience in telecoms.  Tony’s main area of expertise is the gas industry and he was heavily involved with the opening of the competitive gas market where he worked for nine years for nPower, formally Northern Electric.

At C&C Group, Tony now manages the development teams in the Gateshead office that have been responsible for delivering several major industry projects including FiTS, ECOES and GDCC.

Predominantly a Microsoft specialist, he controls the planning, management, delivery and support of many industry-wide systems on different platforms and technologies.

Tony holds an MSc in Computer Modelling and Simulation and a BSc in Pure and Applied Physics.

Dave Young-Account Manager and Senior Consultant (Energy)

Dave has approaching 30 years of experience within the utilities sector.

Prior to joining C&C Group in 2005, Dave worked for Northern Powergrid for 19 years.  He began his career as an electrician and after five years moved into telecommunications.  In 1997 Dave took up a new role, helping Northern Powergrid prepare for the competitive electricity market opening.

Upon leaving Northern Powergrid, Dave had multiple responsibilities as the Registration Service Manager including metering point administration service, new connections, address management, group taka data validation, unmetered supplies, MRA contract manager, industry change control and data quality improvement management.

At C&C Group we maximise Dave’s in-depth experience and knowledge gained working directly within a utility company delivering multiple services coupled with his understanding of IT and as such Dave has multiple roles.  This includes Principle Consultant (Energy), Business Development and Account Management.  His experience allows him to get up to speed very quickly, identifying improvements and offering practical effective solutions to help our utilities clients.

Dave holds a 2:1 BA Hons degree in Information Technology, HNC Electrical Engineering and HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Stuart Jackson-Test Manager

Stuart has approaching 25 years of experience within the utilities sector.

Since joining C&C Group in 2007 Stuart has held a number of key roles in both the utilities and pharmaceutical practises; these include Project Management, Business Analysis, Account Management, Test Management, Service Delivery and Quality Management.  Most recently, Stuart has been responsible for the Quality and Test Management functions within C&C Group, ensuring that our products and services are delivered on time and to the required quality whilst meeting our project governance criteria.

Prior to joining C&C Group in 2007, Stuart worked for Northern PowerGrid for 17 years.  He began his career as a customer services manager within the supply side of the business before moving into a service delivery role within the Northern PowerGrid’s electricity distribution business.

Stuart held a number of key roles during his time with Northern PowerGrid including, Project Management, Business Systems Review and Re-engineering, Service Delivery Management, Managing Budgets, Contract Management, Staff Development and Recruitment. Stuart’s final role within Northern PowerGrid was as a Project Manager working on a large IT implementation project. He was responsible for the specification and delivery of the key reporting functionality of the system and was heavily involved with requirements gathering and managing external contractors and internal customers during the project delivery phase.

Stuart holds an HND in Computing and Business studies and also a Professional Certificate in Business Management from the Open University.

Ian Young-Project Manager / Lead developer 

Ian has over 25 years of IT experience, with the last 6 years gained within the utilities sector.

He has a solid IT background, covering all aspects including support, development, business analysis, team leading and technical architecture gained while working for some of the largest global IT companies, including Oracle and Fujitsu.

Prior to joining C&C Group in 2008, Ian worked for Fujitsu for 13 years. He began as an Oracle Developer, taking up a team leader role shortly after. He was involved in developing systems for the RAF, both from an operational (flight planning) and management (performance measurement) perspective. After a number of years as a Development Team Leader, Ian progressed into a Technical Architect role, before leaving Fujitsu to join C&C Group and enjoy the new challenges the move would provide.

At C&C Group we rely on Ian to apply his in-depth experience and knowledge of both Oracle and Microsoft technologies to deliver high quality, highly performant, fit for purpose business solutions that meet the needs of the customer.

Working closely with St. Clements Services he has overall responsibility for designing and delivering updates to the Metering Point Registration System (MPRS) in use by all electricity distribution companies within the UK. He also oversees the provision of the Property Data Service (PDS) provided to one of the major UK electricity Suppliers.

Ian is also heavily involved in enhancing C&C Groups Address Data Quality Management (ADQM) system, currently in use by a number of the large electricity distribution companies.

Paul Robinson-Project Manager / Lead developer 

Paul has 20 years’ experience in the IT Industry. At C&C Group Paul’s role is a 50/50 split between Project Manager and Lead Software Developer.

After joining the company in April 2012, Paul has worked on the build and support of a number of software systems used by the utilities industry – predominantly electric and water, but more recently gas.  He has also been exposed to the pharmaceutical side of C&C Group’s software portfolio.

Paul’s career started as a student on a sponsorship programme with British Telecom where he attained a BSc in Computing for Business in addition to a number of Microsoft Certifications.  After leaving British Telecom Paul went on to work as an IT Consultant for Sema Group delivering systems to the Inland Revenue and UK Government and then Convergys where he worked in both the UK and USA delivering call-centre applications to a number of blue-chip high-street names.  Paul has also spent some time as an IT contractor.

Paul’s experience across multiple business sectors, technology sets and frameworks enables him to adapt easily to a variety of development projects at C&C Group.  His interpersonal skills place Paul in a customer-facing role, often the first point of contact between the customer and the development team throughout the build and user acceptance phase of software projects.
