C&C Group have an established methodology and process for migrating data from one or more legacy environments to target systems. Our impressive history with blue chip clients in migrating mission critical systems with 100% accuracy and within tight timescales is testament to the robustness of the processes.
The first step in the process is to gain an in-depth understanding of both the legacy and target systems. This will help to establish the second stage of the process – map the legacy data fields to the new target data fields and determine what transformations are required. These mappings are discussed at length with our customers with particular focus on data transformations, data additions (where the target system requires more data than is available from the legacy system) and data residue (where there is no place in the target system for some of the legacy data). When all parties are comfortable with the documented process, the quality gate can be passed. The next phase is a series of iterative developments, migrations and test phases. These will work from a data baseline to migrate data to a target test system. Parallel processing between the new target test system and the legacy test system will establish whether the new system produces the same results as the legacy system. Differences are mitigated or resolved until all parties are satisfied. Once the final quality gate has been passed, the team can move forward to the production migration. |
